Defending world champion Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull was the fastest in this morning’s third and final practice, in advance of this afternoon’s qualifying for Sunday’s 42nd Canadian Grand Prix.
Vettel had a fast lap of 1:13.381, .320 quicker than Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso, who had yesterday’s best time of 1:15.107 after three hours of free practice.
Saturday’s session was notable for the no-show of Red Bull’s Mark Webber, who never left the garage when troubled by his kinetic energy recovery system (KERS).
The only incident of note, beyond a few drivers running through grassy areas when they missed turns, came with time having run out on the hour-long session, Sauber’s Pedro de la Rosa impacting a wall when he lost the back end of the car he’s driving in relief of ailing Sergio Pérez. De la Rosa was uninjured, leaving his engineers with a frantic bit of work before the 1 p.m. qualifying session.
The boost in audience enrolment for Community was short-lived.
